Terms of use
The rules for using WordShine and for anything you buy in it, including subscriptions, Lifetime and refunds.
These terms apply to your use of WordShine, an English vocabulary app for Android, and to anything you buy in it. By downloading or using the app you agree to them and to our Privacy policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the app. Questions: unews.app@outlook.com.
Who can use the app
You must be at least 16 years old to use WordShine. If you are under 18 (or under the age of adulthood where you live), you may buy Premium only with the permission of a parent or guardian, who is responsible for the purchase. You are responsible for your device and for keeping it secure.
The app
WordShine helps you learn English vocabulary. We give you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable right to use the app on your own devices for your own non-commercial learning. The rest of these terms say what that does and does not include.
Acceptable use
You agree not to:
- use the app for anything unlawful, or in a way that harms other people or the app;
- copy, resell, rent, share or redistribute the app or its content, or sell or share Premium or an access code;
- try to get around the app's purchase checks, free limits or access codes, or fake a purchase;
- reverse engineer, decompile or extract the source code of the app, except to the extent the law gives you that right regardless of this clause;
- use robots, scrapers or other automated means to collect the app's content;
- distribute viruses or other code intended to damage the app, a device or a service the app uses.
Free and Premium
The free plan is free to use for as long as the app is offered. Premium unlocks more of the app, as listed on the plan screen before you buy. Your progress and the words you have learned are never locked behind Premium: you can always review them.
What Premium includes
- Premium unlocks the features of WordShine that run on your phone, as listed on the plan screen when you buy. They work offline.
- Premium does not include an account, sign-in, sync, cloud backup or any other online service. WordShine has none today. If the developer ever offers one, it is a separate extra: it may be free or paid, and it may be changed or ended at any time without affecting your Premium.
- WordShine keeps developing. Words and other content are added, corrected, replaced and reorganised, features are improved, changed, moved or retired, and the design changes. Premium is access to the app as it is from time to time, not to a fixed list of words, features or numbers. Counts shown in the app or the store listing (such as how many words or reads) are approximate and can change.
- A change that takes away a main part of what you paid for is covered under Changes that matter, below.
Subscriptions
- Premium subscriptions (monthly or yearly) are sold and billed by Google Play, in your local currency, at the price shown before you buy.
- Subscriptions renew automatically at the end of each period, at the then-current price, until you cancel.
- Free trials: if a plan includes a free trial, you are charged when the trial ends unless you cancel before then. The app reminds you two days before the trial ends when notifications are on. A free trial and introductory prices are for new subscribers, once, whichever plan you start on.
- Introductory prices: if an offer includes a discounted first period, the regular price applies after it. Every price and period is shown before you confirm.
- Cancelling: cancel any time in the app (Settings → Premium → Cancel subscription) or in Google Play (Play Store → Payments & subscriptions → Subscriptions). Premium stays active until the end of the period you have paid for.
- Changing plan: moving between monthly and yearly takes effect as Google Play describes before you confirm.
- Price changes: if the price of a subscription changes, Google Play tells you and, where the law requires, asks for your agreement before the new price applies to you.
Lifetime
Lifetime is a one-time purchase of Premium with no renewals. It lasts for as long as WordShine is offered and the purchase stays valid with Google Play (for example, it is not refunded). It is not a promise of any particular feature, amount of content or length of time, and it does not include any online service.
Lifetime cannot be bought while a subscription is set to renew, so you are never charged twice. Turn renewal off in Google Play first (the app links to it); you keep Premium for the period you have already paid for, then Lifetime can be bought straight away. Google Play cannot credit unused subscription time towards Lifetime.
Access codes
An access code is a gift or a review pass from the developer. It opens Premium for a limited time with no payment, works once per installation, may expire or be withdrawn, has no cash value and cannot be sold or transferred. It does not create a subscription.
Changes that matter
The developer may update the app, change or remove features, change its content or stop offering it. We try to keep Premium at least as useful as when you bought it. If a change takes away a main part of what you paid for, we will say so in the app before it happens. You may then cancel and ask us for a refund of the unused part of the period you paid for (we arrange it through Google Play); for Lifetime, we will consider any request in good faith. Rights you have under the law where you live apply in addition.
If we stop offering the app
If the developer decides to stop offering WordShine, we will give reasonable notice in the app where we can (we aim for at least 60 days), and stop new purchases first. We will refund any subscription time you have paid for beyond the date the app ends. Lifetime and Premium end when the app is withdrawn.
Refunds
Payments and refunds are handled by Google Play under its refund policies. If Google Play refunds a purchase, the Premium it unlocked ends. We do not process or decide refunds ourselves, except where these terms say we will arrange one. Rights you have under consumer law apply in addition.
Content and learning
Word meanings, examples, origins, translations, readings, notes and other content are prepared with care, and some of it may be prepared or checked with the help of automated tools, including artificial intelligence. Despite this, it may contain mistakes or become out of date. It is for learning and is not professional, legal, medical, financial or exam advice, and you should not rely on it as such. Vocabulary estimates, levels and progress figures are approximate. We do not promise any test result, score or level of English, including in IELTS, GRE or any other exam. If you spot a problem, report it from the word’s page or write to unews.app@outlook.com.
Intellectual property
The app, including its design, software, code, text, audio, logos and branding, belongs to the developer or its licensors and is protected by copyright and other laws. These terms give you no ownership of any of it. Some parts of the app are made with open-source or third-party components, which stay under their own licences (see Settings → About). The words, sentences and notes you write yourself stay yours, and the app keeps them on your phone.
Copyright complaints
We respect intellectual property rights. If you believe something in WordShine infringes your copyright, write to unews.app@outlook.com with: the work you say is infringed; the material in the app you say infringes it, and where to find it; and your contact details. We will look into it and respond, and remove or correct material where that is right.
Third-party services and links
WordShine relies on services from others, such as Google Play for purchases, and, if you agree, Firebase for usage and crash reports. They have their own terms and privacy policies, which we do not control. The app may open web pages or the Google Play listing in your browser or in Google Play; we are not responsible for the content or practices of those sites.
Your data
How the app handles your information is described in the Privacy policy. Your progress is stored on your phone; keeping a copy (Settings → Your data → Export) is your responsibility.
Availability, updates and technical issues
We aim for the app to work well, but it is provided on an “as is” and “as available” basis. We do not promise that it will be uninterrupted, error-free or work on every device. Updates may be needed to keep it working, and some features may need a recent version of Android or Google Play services.
Disclaimer of warranties
To the extent the law allows, we give no warranties about the app other than those that cannot be excluded by law, including no warranty that the content is complete, accurate or fit for a particular purpose.
Limitation of liability
To the extent the law allows, the developer is not liable for indirect, incidental, special or consequential losses, for loss of data (including progress you have not exported), or for loss of profits or opportunities, arising from your use of, or inability to use, the app. To the extent the law allows, our total liability to you for any claim is limited to the amount you paid for Premium in the 12 months before the claim arose. Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law (for example for fraud, or for death or personal injury caused by negligence) or rights you have under consumer law that cannot be excluded.
Suspending or ending your use
You can stop using WordShine at any time by uninstalling it; cancel any subscription first so it does not renew. We may suspend or end your access to Premium, or to the app, if you seriously or repeatedly break these terms, for example by faking a purchase or selling access. If we do so for any other reason, we will refund the unused part of what you paid, as described above.
Changes to these terms
These terms may change. The new version will be shown in the app with a new effective date, and you accept it by continuing to use the app. If a change would make Premium materially worse for people who already paid, it will be handled as described under Changes that matter.
Governing law and disputes
These terms are governed by the laws of Pakistan. Disputes arising from them are subject to the courts of Islamabad, Pakistan. If you are a consumer, nothing in this clause removes the protection of the mandatory laws of the country where you live, or the right to bring a claim in the courts there where the law gives you that right.
General
These terms, together with the Privacy policy and anything shown on the plan screen when you buy, are the whole agreement between you and the developer about the app. If part of them cannot be enforced, the rest still applies. If we do not enforce a right straight away, we have not given it up. You may not transfer your rights under these terms; we may transfer ours with the app.
